Clay Shirky Talk - It's Not Information Overload. It's Filter Failure

Web 2.0 Expo NY: Clay Shirky ( It's Not Information Overload. It's Filter Failure

There are a couple of stories in this short talk. One is the story of the student from Ryerson *University* who is charged for creating a study group on Facebook. Can we create online learning environments that support collaboration and also filter out free-riders?

I thought Shirky commentary on the Ryerson thing was among the I've seen. Most of the rest was too polarized on either extreme. I knew I liked that Shirky guy. BTW, did you also watch the Tim O'Reilly keynote?

Didn't see the keynote - just saw this one. I was also impressed about Shirky's take on the matter.

I'm guessing that the way students are evaluated is eventually going to change once the powers that be realize that online collaboration / cheating cannot be contained. Perhaps assignments will be still be given but the only marks that will count will be for exams and other directly observed activity?
